Illinois Grazing Lands Coalition Announces Fall 2024Grazing Schools

BREESE, IL – The Illinois Grazing Lands Coalition (ILGLC) is excited to announce two upcoming grazing schools in September 2024. The first school will take place in Macomb, IL on September 6 and 7, and the second school will be held in Creal Springs, IL on September 13 and 14.

“The Illinois Grazing Lands Coalition continues to see overwhelming demand from Illinois producers seeking the resources, support, and technical assistance needed to implement improved grazing strategies on their operations,” said Christian Lovell, ILGLC Executive Director. “Our upcoming grazing schools will give farmers the opportunity to learn firsthand from industry experts, as well as farmers from their own area, who have found grazing systems that work.”

Improved grazing management not only improves soil health, water quality, and biodiversity but also positively impacts producers economically by boosting animal performance and reducing feed costs.

ILGLC’s September 6 and 7 school will take place in Macomb, IL and the September 13 and 14 school in Creal Springs, IL. Over two days, attendees at each school will take part in classroom and in-field instruction by expert presenters who will cover a wide range of topics including the basics of getting started, soil fertility and soil health, water and fencing systems, extending the grazing season, multispecies grazing, and more. In addition, a panel of local livestock producers will discuss their operations as well as their experiences with grazing.

Registration by August 30 is required to attend. A registration fee of $50 per attendee for each school covers the cost of instruction, handouts, meals, and refreshments for both days. Attendees may register for one or both schools. Space is limited. Historically underserved producers are encouraged to attend and scholarships are available for those who need financial assistance. Complete details and registration is available at www.ilgrazinglands.org.
